11/01/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Utah Jazz will attempt to capture their second consecutive home win to open the season when they welcome the winless Los Angeles Clippers to the raucous EnergySolutions Arena.
Carlos Boozer scored 25 points and hauled in 14 rebounds, as the Jazz fought off a feisty Denver Nuggets club for a 98-94 victory on Wednesday.
The Jazz, who were missing star point guard Deron Williams after he suffered a sprained ankle in the preseason, shot 46.8 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Nuggets 46-35.
Mehmet Okur scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds, while Andrei Kirilenko contributed 16 points for the defending Northwest Division champions.
Williams is listed as doubtful by the Jazz and will likely miss his second consecutive game against the Clippers, while sharp-shooter Kyle Korver (right wrist inflammation) is a game-time decision.
Meanwhile, the Clippers dropped a tough game at home on Friday after Denver's Allen Iverson scored 25 points, including nine in overtime, as the Nuggets overcame an 18-point halftime deficit to beat Los Angeles, 113-103, at Staples Center.
Al Thornton scored 30 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the Clippers, who lost for the second time in as many games this season. Tim Thomas notched 20 points, and Chris Kaman had 15 points to go with his 15 rebounds. Cuttino Mobley ended with 14 points in defeat.
To make matters worse for the Clippers, point guard Baron Davis left early in the second quarter after injuring his left hip/tailbone. He came crashing to the floor after going up for a defensive rebound and will be a game-time decision tonight.
Utah took three of four meetings versus the Clips last season and the home team has won two straight and five of the last six meetings in the series.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
